Carbon-resistant NiO-Y2O3-nanostructured catalysts derived from double-layered hydroxides for dry reforming of methane

Katarzyna Swirk Da Costa et al.

Summary: Yttrium promotion in Ni/Mg/Al double-layered hydroxides leads to improved reducibility of Ni species and total basicity, resulting in higher CH4 and CO2 conversions in dry reforming of methane. However, this also leads to significant carbon deposits, with NiY8-DLH showing the best catalytic stability.

Dry reforming of methane over Ni/Ce0.8Ti0.2O2-δ: The effect of Ni particle size on the carbon pathways studied by transient and isotopic techniques

Constantinos M. Damaskinos et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of Ni particle size on carbon paths in the dry reforming of methane, revealing correlations between different Ni particle sizes and initial kinetic rates, carbon accumulation, and deposition, as well as differences in carbon removal rates. The exclusive route of inactive carbon formation during dry reforming was found to be methane dissociation, independent of Ni particle size.

Unraveling Enhanced Activity, Selectivity, and Coke Resistance of Pt-Ni Bimetallic Clusters in Dry Reforming

Juntian Niu et al.

Summary: By introducing Pt atoms into the surface of nickel catalysts, an enhanced active and stable Ni-based catalyst for methane dry reforming reaction was synthesized. The bimetallic Pt-Ni catalysts simultaneously enhance activity, increase H2/CO ratio, and improve stability by resisting carbon deposition. Density-functional theory calculations explained the higher coke resistance of Pt-Ni catalysts compared to monometallic samples.

Summary: A flame-synthesized Ni-doped MgO nanocatalyst showed stable dry reforming of methane (DRM) activity from 500 to 800 degrees C and continuous H-2 production for 50 hours at 700 degrees C. Compared to other preparation methods, NiMgO-F exhibited the highest catalytic activity and stability. Despite attempts to incorporate potential promoters and co-catalysts, no significant performance improvement was observed.

Nickel nanoparticles with interfacial confinement mimic noble metal catalyst in methane dry reforming

Wenbo Kong et al.

Summary: Precisely decorating the Ni surface with SiO2 can prevent carbon deposition and enhance the stability of the catalyst. The Ni-O···Si center enables the activation of CH4 to form CHx instead of carbon. Through effective interfacial confinement, SiO2 can significantly alter the electronic properties of Ni particles.

Tuning Metal-Support Interactions on Ni/Al2O3 Catalysts to Improve Catalytic Activity and Stability for Dry Reforming of Methane

Lulu He et al.

Summary: Increasing the calcination temperature of nickel-based catalysts on alumina leads to the formation of nickel-alumina spinel, enhancing metal-support interaction and reducing temperature. It also decreases nickel nanoparticle size and increases effective dispersion due to the formation of nickel aluminate. The catalyst calcined at 750 degrees C shows the highest conversion rates in methane dry reforming and excellent stability in a 200 h test.

Insights into flower-like Al2O3 spheres with rich unsaturated pentacoordinate Al3+ sites stabilizing Ru-CeOx for propane total oxidation

Wenming Liu et al.

Summary: A series of nano-flower sheet-like alumina spheres were designed and synthesized to stabilize Ru-CeOx catalysts for the catalytic total oxidation of propane. The material exhibited low conversion temperature and activation energy, as well as superior resistance to water, sulfur, and carbon dioxide, along with good recycling performance. The excellent catalytic performance is attributed to the rich unsaturated pentacoordinate Al3+ sites on the NF-Al2O3 material, which anchor the Ru-CeOx active species and promote dispersion and stability.
