Electrically Induced Mixed Valence Increases the Conductivity of Copper Helical Metallopolymers

Jake L. Greenfield et al.

Summary: In this study, resistive switching within molecular wires made of double-helical metallopolymers, constructed by self-assembly, is demonstrated using a bottom-up approach. The oxidation of copper atoms from Cu-I to Cu-II is found to increase conductivity by 10(4)-fold, lasting for years due to the structural rearrangement of the double helix. This work establishes helical metallopolymers as a new platform for controlling currents at the nanoscale.

25 Years of Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cells: A Flexible and Stretchable Perspective

Kory Schlingman et al.

Summary: Light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) are simple electroluminescent devices that use a mechanism involving both ionic and electronic transport. Unlike organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), LECs have flourished in academic research due to their simple structure and unique features, leading to the development of flexible and stretchable light-emitting devices.

Controlling the shape and chirality of an eight-crossing molecular knot

John P. Carpenter et al.

Summary: In this study, a molecular knot with eight crossing points was synthesized through self-assembly process. The structure and topology of the knot were confirmed using NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and X-ray crystallography. After demetallation, the organic strand relaxed into a symmetric conformation while maintaining the original knot's topology.

Pathways to increase the dissymmetry in the interaction of chiral light and chiral molecules

Jake L. Greenfield et al.

Summary: The dissymmetric interaction between circularly polarised light and chiral molecules is important across various fields, but the selectivity in absorption or emission of left-handed versus right-handed CP light is often low. Strategies to enhance this interaction include molecular design, modification of light, and creating macroscopic chiral structures, offering hope for advancements in research involving interactions of chiral molecules and light.
