This article examines a group of frescoes in the western hall of the lower floor of the Vladychnaya Chamber, dating it to the late 16th century. It is suggested that these frescoes may have decorated a small chapel at the entrance to the chamber, possibly related to local customs.
The article examines a compact group of frescoes in the western hall of the lower floor of the Vladychnaya Chamber, identifies its structure and composition and substantiates its dating to the last decades of the 16th century. The topography of the hall, whose function is still unknown, as well as the analysis of the text of the Collection of Rites of St. Sophia Cathedral allow us to assume that this was a decoration of a small chapel at the entrance to the chamber from the household yard, the appearance of which is most likely associated with the local practice of entry to the cellar of the servants of St. Sophia Cathedral on the occasion of festive services.
