Peer Social Acceptance and Academic Achievement: A Meta-Analytic Study

Kathryn R. Wentzel et al.

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis of 72 studies to investigate the link between peer social acceptance and academic achievement, finding a significant and positive relationship. Moderator effects indicated that this relationship was stronger for younger students and students from Asian countries, as well as for classroom-based assessments. The study also suggested that academic self-beliefs, negative affect, and active engagement partially mediate the relationship between social acceptance and academic performance.
