Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Stay-Play-Talk Interventions for Improving Social Behaviors of Young Children

Jennifer R. Ledford et al.

Summary: SPT is a peer-mediated intervention that has positive and significant effects on both peer implementers and focal children in inclusive preschool settings during free play activities. However, further research is needed to determine the characteristics of peer implementers and focal children that moderate intervention success, as well as the modifications needed for children with complex communication needs.

Validity and Reliability Analysis of the PlotDigitizer Software Program for Data Extraction from Single-Case Graphs

Orhan Aydin et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the validity and reliability of the PlotDigitizer software program for extracting raw data from graphs in single-case research, and concluded that PlotDigitizer is a valid and reliable alternative that can run on different operating systems and devices. By digitizing a large number of data points and recalculating effect sizes, it was found that PlotDigitizer is nearly perfect in terms of validity and competitive with other software programs.

Sorting the File Drawer: A Typology for Describing Unpublished Studies

David A. Lishner

Summary: A typology of unpublished studies is presented to describe various types of unpublished studies and their reasons for nonpublication. The reasons for nonpublication are classified based on whether they are result-dependent or result-independent, and whether they affect publication decisions of individual researchers or reviewers/editors. The typology helps in understanding the overall situation of study results in the field of psychology and offers insight into publication biases and research dissemination practices.

Autocorrelation and estimates of treatment effect size for single-case experimental design data

Lucy Barnard-Brak et al.

Summary: The study found that non-parametric effect size measures are more significantly influenced by the degree of autocorrelation compared to parametric measures. It is recommended to avoid using NAP, IRD, and PND values as the autocorrelation between data points increases in single-case design data analysis.

Evaluating Meta-Analytic Methods to Detect Selective Reporting in the Presence of Dependent Effect Sizes

Melissa A. Rodgers et al.

Summary: Selective reporting of statistically significant results in primary studies can distort meta-analytic findings. Existing methods for detecting this problem do not account for statistically dependent effect size estimates from primary studies, highlighting the need for further investigation. Tests that incorporate techniques to handle dependent effect sizes show promise in controlling false positives rates, but have limited power to detect selective reporting biases unless a majority of effect sizes are statistically significant. Future work is needed to enhance and expand these methods.

A Meta-Analysis of Single-Case Research on Word-Problem Instruction for Students With Learning Disabilities

Mikyung Shin et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis reveals a significant overall effect of word-problem instruction for students with learning disabilities, with studies meeting fidelity indicators showing greater effects based on the Common Core State Standards. Future research should continue to explore limitations and directions in this area.

The Effects of Social Skill Interventions for Adolescents With Autism: A Meta-Analysis

Salena Babb et al.

Summary: The study found that social interaction interventions can effectively change the social behavior of adolescent ASD patients. Generally large effect sizes indicate the importance of interventions in producing positive changes. This has significant implications for guiding future intervention strategies for adolescents with ASD.
