This paper introduces a dynamic tuning passive filter (DTPF) that not only has superior performance, but also a price advantage over passive power filters (PPF). Through practical engineering application verification, DTPF performs well in harmonic suppression and energy saving.
The passive power filter (PPF) is commonly used to solve the power harmonic problems. It faces the dual challenges of parameters continuous adjustment and dynamic tuning. To address the problems, this paper presents a tuned filtering method and theoretically points out the way to achieve tuning function. On this basis, a dynamic tuning passive filter (DTPF) is developed. The DTPF not only has the same performance as the active power filter, but also a price advantage over PPF. Moreover, the DTPF has the advantages of both harmonic suppression and energy saving. To further verify the theoretical results and the DTPF's performance in engineering environment, the performance evaluation indexes were given to realize the quantitative evaluation performance of the DTPF, and then the DTPF was used for verification applications and compared with PPF. The results of the engineering application show that the harmonic current absorption rate of the DTPF is higher than that of the PPF, and the DTPF not only absorbs (filters) harmonic currents and reduces the current root mean square, but also converts the absorbed harmonic currents into fundamental currents, thereby improving the power factor and power quality.
