Fenton/Fenton-like processes with in-situ production of hydrogen peroxide/hydroxyl radical for degradation of emerging contaminants: Advances and prospects

Yong Liu et al.

Summary: Fenton processes, utilizing the reaction between Fe2+ and H2O2 to produce hydroxyl radicals for the degradation of organic pollutants, are efficient but face challenges with traditional bulk feeding of H2O2. In-situ production of H2O2 through O-2 activation in Fenton/Fenton-like processes is gaining attention for its potential advantages in industrial wastewater treatment.

A review of methods for the removal of penicillins from water

Joshua O. Ighalo et al.

Summary: This review highlights the effectiveness of carbon-based adsorbents in removing Penicillins (PENs) from water, with mechanisms such as hydrogen bonding, electrostatic attraction, and pi - pi interactions playing a significant role in the adsorption process. UV irradiation assisted-advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) and Fenton-like processes demonstrated superior performance in the degradation of PENs.

Cross-linked FeCl3-activated seaweed carbon/MCM-41/alginate hydrogel composite for effective biosorption of bisphenol A plasticizer and basic dye from aqueous solution

F. Marrakchi et al.

Summary: The experiments showed that the FeCl3-activated seaweed carbon/MCM-41/alginate hydrogel composite cross-linked with calcium chloride (ECAC/MCM-41/ALG) has significant biosorption effects on BPA and BB, with high adsorption capacities, with the best performance at 50 degrees Celsius; Ethanol elution can maintain its cyclic adsorption/desorption capacity, making it suitable for treating industrial wastewater laden with emerging contaminants.

Removal of ibuprofen from aqueous media by adsorption: A comprehensive review

Stephen N. Oba et al.

Summary: This paper reviews empirical findings on the adsorption of ibuprofen (IBP) from aqueous media over the past decade, highlighting carbon-based adsorbents as the best choice with a maximum adsorption capacity of 496.1 mg/g. The uptake mechanism involves hydrophobic interactions, pi-pi stacking, among others. Future research should focus on adsorbent disposal, process improvement, scale-up, industrial applications, and practical utilization to enhance sustainable water resource management.

2-Mercaptobenzimidazole-functionalized chitosan for enhanced removal of methylene blue: Batch and column studies

Khalid Z. Elwakeel et al.

Summary: Chitosan functionalized with 2-mercaptobenzimidazole shows high sorption capacity for methylene blue, which remains stable even at high NaCl concentration. The sorption process follows Langmuir equation, and the efficiency of adsorption and desorption can be influenced by agitation speed and HCl concentration.

Desorption of chloramphenicol from ordered mesoporous carbon-alginate beads: Effects of operating parameters, and isotherm, kinetics, and regeneration studies

N. A. Ahammad et al.

Summary: This study investigated the desorption of chloramphenicol from ordered mesoporous carbon-alginate beads and found that desorption efficiency decreased with increasing temperature. NaCl was the most effective eluent, and the beads showed promising reusability characteristics towards the targeted antibiotic.CPC desorption fitted well to the Redlich-Peterson and Freundlich isotherm models, and desorption kinetics followed pseudo-second and pseudo-first order models for ethanol/NaCl and water eluents respectively.

Activated Carbon From Palm Fibres Used as an Adsorbent for Methylene Blue Removal

Lana S. Maia et al.

Summary: In this study, activated carbon was synthesized from residues of palm fibers, and its efficacy in removing methylene blue was evaluated. The adsorption process followed the Langmuir isotherm model, indicating that the adsorption occurred through physicochemical interactions. The activated carbon from palm fibers showed characteristics necessary for effective methylene blue removal.
