Green synthesis as a simple and rapid route to protein modified magnetic nanoparticles for use in the development of a fluorometric molecularly imprinted polymer-based assay for detection of myoglobin

Mark Sullivan et al.

Summary: A low-cost molecularly imprinted polymer-based fluorometric assay was developed for direct quantification of myoglobin in biological samples. Aldehyde functionalized magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized using a rapid microwave-assisted method and used to capture myoglobin, with subsequent analysis using fluorescence spectroscopy. This method showed a linear correlation and a high recovery rate in spiked fetal calf serum samples.

Hybrid Aptamer-Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (aptaMIP) Nanoparticles from Protein Recognition-A Trypsin Model

Mark V. Sullivan et al.

Summary: The research shows that by slightly adapting the chemical structure of a DNA aptamer and incorporating it into the recognition part of a MIP, an aptamer-MIP hybrid or aptaMIP is created, which is effective for detecting the target protein trypsin. AptaMIP nanoparticles demonstrate superior binding affinity and detection sensitivity compared to conventional MIP nanoparticles, while also showing good selectivity against other protein targets. Introducing the aptamer as a macro-monomer into the MIP scaffold has beneficial effects and potential for significant improvement in this class of polymers.
