Functional motor disorders associated with other neurological diseases: Beyond the boundaries of organic neurology

Summary: This study found that comorbid functional motor disorders with other neurological diseases are common, usually appearing after the diagnosis of another neurological disease. Patients with comorbid FMDs are typically older and have tremor, non-neurological comorbidities, etc. The importance of early diagnosis of FMDs is highlighted due to the frequent association with other neurological and non-neurological diseases.

Summary: Italian neurologists tend to use MRI to assist in the diagnosis of idiopathic adult-onset focal dystonia, especially in patients with cervical dystonia, spasmodic dysphonia, or non-task-specific upper limb dystonia. However, MRI may be less likely to be used in patients with blepharospasm or task-specific upper limb dystonia.

Functional dystonia: A case-control study and risk prediction algorithm
