Do remittances reduce women's acceptance of domestic violence? Evidence from Pakistan

Aniruddha Mitra et al.

Summary: This paper examines the impact of emigration and remittances on the transformation of prevailing gender norms, focusing on women's attitudes towards domestic violence. The study finds that women in households with access to remittances are less likely to accept domestic violence, even when different contexts for domestic violence are considered. This suggests the existence of mechanisms beyond the transnational diffusion of gender norms as typically emphasized.
