The demographic burden of population loss in US cities, 2000-2010

Rachel S. Franklin

Summary: This research focuses on the demographic differences between areas of population growth and decline in shrinking cities, and the extent to which different populations are impacted in shrinking urban spaces. The findings reveal that at both city and census tract levels, the demographic characteristics of growth and decline areas are distinct, and certain groups are more likely to be living in areas affected by population loss.
