Significant reduction of physical activity in patients with neuromuscular disease during COVID-19 pandemic: the long-term consequences of quarantine

Vincenzo Di Stefano et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 quarantine has significantly decreased the levels of physical activity among patients with neuromuscular disease and healthy controls. Factors such as disease presence, impaired walking, gender, and BMI all play a role in determining the extent of this decrease. Additionally, a correlation was found between quality of life in NMD patients and the reduction in physical activity levels during quarantine.

Modelling the contribution of the Big Five personality traits, health anxiety, and COVID-19 psychological distress to generalised anxiety and depressive symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic

Ana Nikcevic et al.

Summary: The study found that extraversion, agreeableness, and conscientiousness were negatively correlated with generalized anxiety and depressive symptoms, while neuroticism, health anxiety, and COVID-19 psychological distress were positively correlated with these symptoms. The study also indicated that health anxiety, COVID-19 anxiety, and the COVID-19 anxiety syndrome partially mediated the relationship between the Big Five personality traits and generalized anxiety and depressive symptoms.

Personality and perceived stress during COVID-19 pandemic: Testing the mediating role of perceived threat and efficacy

Sam Liu et al.

Summary: Prolonged stress is linked to poor physical and mental health outcomes, so understanding the mediators between personality and stress is crucial for developing effective stress management interventions. Our study found that higher levels of neuroticism and extroversion were associated with increased stress during the pandemic, with perceived threat and efficacy mediating the relationship between neuroticism and stress.
