What Feedback Matters? The Role of Experience in Motivating Crowdsourcing Innovation

Kimmy Wa Chan et al.

Summary: Recent research on open innovation has shown a growing concern about the quality of crowdsourced ideas. This study predicts the impact of feedback on ideation performance based on a framework of creativity capability and intrinsic motivation. The results suggest that the effects of feedback vary depending on valence, source, and ideators' experience.

Attracting High-Quality Contestants to Contest in the Context of Crowdsourcing Contest Platform

Pei-Yu Chen et al.

Summary: Contests have long been used to source ideas and solutions, with crowdsourcing contest platforms reducing costs and attracting a large pool of participants. The study found that contest duration affects both the number and quality of contestants, and contest design parameters have direct effects on the quality distribution of contestants. Practical recommendations on setting up successful contests and attracting high-quality contestants are provided.

The boundary of crowdsourcing in the domain of creativity

Jie Ren et al.

Summary: The study reveals that while the crowd is more creative than professionals in solving generalist tasks, they are less innovative in solving specialist tasks. However, by exposing themselves to each other's ideas, members of the crowd can gain relevant knowledge and attempt to break the boundary of crowdsourcing. This study provides new insights into the boundary of crowdsourcing for innovation.

Determinants of idea sharing in crowdsourcing: evidence from the automotive industry

Thomas Schaeper et al.

Summary: This study examines how three attributes of car drivers - altruism, psychological ownership of ideas, and trust in car manufacturers - determine their sharing behavior. The findings suggest that trust and altruism enhance idea sharing, while psychological ownership weakens it. Additionally, car drivers' perception of sharing-related risk plays a key role in these relationships.
