Assessing the measurement invariance of the Children's Hope Scale in Chinese and American adolescents

Qin Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that the one-factor model was more suitable for the Chinese sample, while the two-factor model was more suitable for the American sample. Full measurement invariance was not demonstrated for the two-factor model with Chinese adolescents, indicating that mean level comparisons between agency and pathways should not be made. Despite Chinese adolescents reporting a lower total mean level of hope compared to American adolescents, researchers can tentatively make comparisons using CHS total scores.
