Pandemic Grief Scale: A screening tool for dysfunctional grief due to a COVID-19 loss

Sherman A. Lee et al.

Summary: This study developed and evaluated the Pandemic Grief Scale (PGS) to identify dysfunctional grief associated with COVID-19 deaths. The PGS, based on a sample of 831 adults who lost someone to COVID-19, demonstrated good reliability and validity, and effectively measured grief related to COVID-19. It can accurately distinguish individuals with and without dysfunctional grief and has potential applications for clinical research and practice.

Work and Social Adjustment Scale (WSAS): psychometric characteristics of a Spanish adaptation in a clinical population

Antonio J. Vazquez Morejon et al.

Summary: The results of the study confirm the validity and reliability of the Work and Social Adjustment Scale (WSAS) for evaluating the impact of mental disorders on patient functioning. The scale showed high internal consistency and temporal reliability, with significant correlations between WSAS scores and psychopathological measures, as well as significant differences between individuals working and on leave. The findings support the potential use of the WSAS for routine evaluation of functional impact of mental disorders.

Summary: Bereaved individuals from COVID-19 experience higher levels of grief compared to those bereaved from natural causes. Functional impairment in this group is associated with symptoms of separation distress, dysfunctional grief, and posttraumatic stress. Identifying and addressing functional impairment may be crucial in helping bereaved individuals fully participate in social and economic activities during and after the pandemic.
