The influence of intermittent hypoxia, obesity, and diabetes on male genitourinary anatomy and voiding physiology

Lisa L. Abler et al.

Summary: Metabolic syndrome and intermittent hypoxia can independently and together modify male mouse urinary function. The study found that type 2 diabetes phenotype and intermittent hypoxia had individual and combined influences on voiding function and urogenital anatomy in male mice.

A uropathogenic E. coil UTI89 model of prostatic inflammation and collagen accumulation for use in studying aberrant collagen production in the prostate

Hannah Ruetten et al.

Summary: Bacterial infection is a known cause of prostatic inflammation, which is linked to lower urinary tract symptoms in men. A model of prostatic inflammation using Escherichia coli UTI89 infection in mice was effective in altering urinary phenotype and inducing prostate inflammation and collagen accumulation. The infection resulted in changes in bladder and prostate distribution, increased collagen density, and a unique voiding pattern in mice.
