Not Enough Money and Too Many Thoughts: Exploring Perceptions of Mental Health in Two Ugandan Districts Through the Mental Health Literacy Framework

Summary: This study highlighted environmental and societal stressors as primary underlying causes of poor mental health in Uganda. While participants recognized symptoms of poor mental health, gaps in mental health literacy were also identified. The need for mental health resources in this setting was emphasized, and further qualitative work on knowledge and attitudes towards mental health care seeking behavior was recommended to inform the development of acceptable integrated services.
