Pesticide occurrence and water quality assessment from an agriculturally influenced Latin-American tropical region

Didier Ramirez-Morales et al.

Summary: The monitoring study conducted in three agriculturally influenced microcatchments in Costa Rica from 2012 to 2014 found multiple pesticides in water samples and mainly insecticides in sediment samples. Water quality was affected by parameters such as nitrate and phosphorous, with nearby agricultural and urban activities having a significant impact.

Stereoselective environmental fate of fosthiazate in soil and water-sediment microcosms

Lianshan Li et al.

Summary: The study investigated the stereoselective fate of chiral fosthiazate in soil and aquatic ecosystems, finding significant differences in degradation rates among different stereoisomers. The degradation half-lives of (1R,3S)-fosthiazate were shorter than the other three stereoisomers in greenhouse soil, and fosthiazate degraded more rapidly in seawater-sediment microcosms than in river water-sediment microcosms. Oxidation and hydrolysis were identified as the main degradation pathways in water-sediment microcosms. Results suggest that (1R,3S)-fosthiazate and (1R,3R)-fosthiazate may pose more serious ecotoxicity due to their longer half-lives compared to other stereoisomers in the environment.

Stereoselective degradation behavior of the novel chiral antifungal agrochemical penthiopyrad in soil

Zhengyi Liu et al.

Summary: This study is the first to report the absolute configuration of penthiopyrad stereoisomers and the comprehensive evaluation of the stereoselective degradation of penthiopyrad in Chinese soil. Stereoselective degradation of rac-penthiopyrad was observed in the four types of soil, with the stereoselectivity potentially being inhibited by organic matter. This research provides more accurate data to understand the environmental behavior of penthiopyrad at the stereoisomer level.
