The role of regulatory, market and governance risk for electricity access investment in sub-Saharan Africa

Giacomo Falchetta et al.

Summary: Private sector plays a crucial role in achieving universal electricity access in sub-Saharan Africa, but faces various sources of risk in infrastructure investment decisions. The introduction of the Electricity Access Governance Index helps to evaluate the impact of different risks on electrification investment. Governance and institutional reforms are necessary to attract private finance and ensure widespread energy access.
