Tailoring strength and ductility of high-entropy CrMnFeCoNi alloy by adding Al

Xin Xian et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the strengthening of CrMnFeCoNi alloy by adding aluminum. The experimental results show that a phase structure transition from fcc to bcc occurs when a sufficient amount of aluminum is added, leading to an increase in yield strength and hardness. By adjusting the alloy composition, it is possible to achieve high strength and sufficient ductility in high-entropy alloys.

Multicomponent high-entropy Cantor alloys

B. Cantor

Summary: Multicomponent high-entropy Cantor alloys, discovered in the late 1970s, occupy a vast region of multi-component phase space and exhibit excellent mechanical properties due to high configurational entropy. The complexity of local atomic configurations and associated lattice strains in these alloys contributes to their unique characteristics and potential for further enhancement and optimization.

Microstructural and mechanical behavior of a CoCrFeNiCu4 non-equiatomic high entropy alloy

Zijuan Xu et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated a Cu-rich non-equiatomic HEA, revealing changes in alloy behavior during thermal cycles and thermomechanical processing, including continuous melting and discontinuous solidification of Cu-rich and CoCrFeNi-rich phases. The alloy softened and became more ductile after annealing at different temperatures, with varying effects on mechanical properties. The observation of yield-drop phenomena at certain annealing temperatures suggests further research is needed to understand the locking of pre-existing dislocations by unknown atmospheres.

Mechanical behavior of high-entropy alloys

Weidong Li et al.

Summary: Research in high-entropy alloys has been booming since the 2010s, focusing on the vast potential in compositions, microstructures, and properties. Efforts are mainly directed towards exploring the compositional space and microstructures, as well as understanding the mechanical behavior. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive studies on the mechanical behavior of high-entropy alloys.

Phase, microstructure and related mechanical properties of a series of (NbTaZr)C-Based high entropy ceramics

Zhongtao Li et al.

Summary: By assessing the microstructure and mechanical properties of a series of multi-equiatomic-cation carbides, it was found that (NbTaZrW)C exhibits the best combination of hardness and fracture toughness among the ceramics studied. The properties of the carbides are not solely determined by the number of cations, and further theoretical investigations are needed to fully understand the effects of W and/or Hf addition on the hardness and fracture toughness.

Strengthening in Al-, Mo- or Ti-doped CoCrFeNi high entropy alloys: A parallel comparison

Xi Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of Al, Mo, and Ti on the microstructure and strengthening of the CoCrFeNi alloy was compared, revealing that Al and Ti are more effective than Mo in reducing stacking fault energy. Different doping elements lead to varying levels of solid solution and grain boundary strengthening in the alloy. This research presents valuable insights for designing high-strength alloys by manipulating solid solution and grain boundary strengthening through compositional tuning.

Three-dimensional phase-field simulations of the influence of diffusion interface width on dendritic growth of Fe-0.5 wt.%C alloy

Weipeng Chen et al.

Summary: The solidification behavior and microstructure formation in Fe-C alloys are crucial for improving their performance in modern industries. A study using a three-dimensional quantitative phase-field model found that decreasing the diffusion interface width (DIW) in Fe-0.5 wt.%C alloy led to reduced solute enrichment at the solid/liquid interface, increased growth velocity of primary dendrite arms, and more numerous and longer secondary dendrite arms.
