Summary: Developing low-cost and high-effective bifunctional electrocatalysts is an efficient way to reduce energy consumption in hydrogen production through electrochemical water splitting. The heterogeneous core-shell Co(OH)(2)/NiS electrocatalyst showed good catalytic activity for overall water splitting, with the optimized version presenting low overpotentials and excellent electrochemical stability in alkaline electrolyzers.
