Nursing interventions for pressure injury prevention among critically ill patients: A systematic review

Bassam Alshahrani et al.

Summary: This systematic review identified four categories of interventions that are most effective in preventing pressure injuries among critical care patients: PI prevention bundles, repositioning and the use of surface support, prevention of medical device-related pressure injuries, and access to expertise. While all included studies reported a reduction in pressure injuries following the interventions, the strength of the evidence ranged from moderate to very low. Nurses play a vital role in prevention of pressure injuries, and education and training programs on PI prevention are important for successful prevention strategies.
