Short-term phosphorus addition augments the effects of nitrogen addition on soil respiration in a typical steppe

Summary: The study investigated the interactive effects of nitrogen and phosphorus on soil respiration in a northern Chinese steppe. Results showed that nitrogen addition increased soil respiration, while phosphorus addition did not impact it. However, the interactive effects of nitrogen and phosphorus significantly influenced soil respiration, suggesting that soil nutrient contents should be considered in predictive models for the terrestrial carbon cycle response to nitrogen addition.
