Spatial Delimitation of Genetic Diversity of Native Maize and Its Relationship with Ethnic Groups in Mexico

Alberto Santillan-Fernandez et al.

Summary: The study used GIS tools to analyze diversity and richness indexes of 64 maize races cultivated in Mexico, identifying seven environmental units with characteristic maize races in each, and showing a close relationship between maize race diversity and ethnic group diversity, influenced by environmental factors and geographical features of the cultivation regions. This geographical demarcation of races and uses of maize will contribute to food security and increased value of maize by-products.

Spatial-Temporal Evolution of Scientific Production about Genetically Modified Maize

Alberto Santillan-Fernandez et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the spatial-temporal evolution of scientific production on GMO maize, finding a linear growth in Latin American literature and low impact in scientific studies published in their own countries in Spanish. In Mexico, spatial discrepancies were found between research centers and production areas, limiting technology transfer, with a lack of specialized authors in GMO maize themes. Researchers responded to scientific trends in accordance with agrarian policies of the time.
