Using machine learning to predict clinical outcomes after shoulder arthroplasty with a minimal feature set

Vikas Kumar et al.

Summary: The study compared the accuracy of full feature set predictive models and minimal feature set models for predicting clinical outcomes after aTSA and rTSA surgeries. Results showed similar accuracy between the full and abbreviated models in predicting various outcome measures at different postoperative time points. The minimal feature set of inputs may be easily used during a surgical consultation to improve decision-making related to shoulder arthroplasty.

Machine learning can reliably identify patients at risk of overnight hospital admission following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction

Yining Lu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop and validate a machine learning algorithm to effectively identify patients requiring admission following ACL reconstruction. Important factors such as operative time, anesthesia type, age, gender, and BMI were identified to predict the need for overnight admission. The ensemble model showed the best performance in internal validation and could potentially guide preoperative screening and risk stratification for overnight admission following ACL reconstruction.

Using Predictive Modeling and Machine Learning to Identify Patients Appropriate for Outpatient Anterior Cervical Fusion and Discectomy

Kevin Y. Wang et al.

Summary: The study utilized predictive modeling and machine learning to develop tools for identifying patients suitable for single-level outpatient anterior cervical fusion and discectomy. Results showed that the predictive model and artificial neural network were more accurate than legacy risk assessment methods, which may aid surgeons and perioperative teams in clinical decision-making.
