Stable Facts, Relative Facts

Andrea Di Biagio et al.

Summary: Facts are not absolute but relative to the systems involved in the interaction. Stable facts are those whose relativity can effectively be ignored. This work explores how stable facts emerge in a world of relative facts and discusses their roles in connecting quantum theory and the world, resolving difficulties pointed out by certain theorems and experimental violations.

Reconstructing quantum theory from diagrammatic postulates

John H. Selby et al.

Summary: The reconstruction of quantum theory involves deriving the traditional formulation from primitive assumptions, presenting a diagrammatic and category-theoretic approach that emphasizes intuitive understanding and mathematical appeal. The introduction of the symmetric purification postulate and novel alternative manners of approaching quantum theory are highlighted, showing the connections to generalised probabilistic theories and process theories. The importance of a sharp dagger structure in the reconstruction process is also emphasized.

Symmetries of quantum evolutions

Giulio Chiribella et al.

Summary: Wigner's theorem establishes that every symmetry of the quantum state space must be either a unitary transformation or an antiunitary transformation, and that every symmetry of the space of quantum evolutions can be decomposed into two state space symmetries that are either both unitary or both antiunitary. It is impossible to extend the time-reversal symmetry of unitary quantum dynamics to a symmetry of the full set of quantum evolutions.
