Fast-acting and highly rechargeable antibacterial composite nanofibrous membrane for protective applications

Xueqian Yin et al.

Summary: A powerful nanofibrous membrane, called TPM, was fabricated for inactivating bacteria, exhibiting excellent antibacterial and antivirus activity with low inhibitory concentrations for E. coli and S. aureus. TPM also showed rapid chlorine loading capacity and regenerative chlorination capacity, making it a scalable biocidal layer for protective applications. The antibacterial mechanisms, including macromolecular release, morphological damage, and reduction of respiratory chain dehydrogenase activity, were also studied.
