A novel rapid detection for SARS-CoV-2 spike 1 antigens using human angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2)

Jong-Hwan Lee et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel rapid detection method for the SARS-CoV-2 S1 antigen using a matched pair of ACE2 and antibody. The detection method showed high specificity and sensitivity without cross-reactivity, making it a valuable tool in detecting the S1 antigen from COVID-19 patients.

Dacron swab and PBS are acceptable alternatives to flocked swab and viral transport media for SARS-CoV-2

Ahnika Kline et al.

Summary: Nasopharyngeal flocked swabs placed in viral transport media are preferred for respiratory virus testing, but an alternative swab in phosphate-buffered saline can achieve similar results. The study demonstrates that nasopharyngeal collection is better for detection of human material than oropharyngeal collection.

Sensitivity of SARS-CoV-2 Detection With Nasopharyngeal Swabs

Bianca Clerici et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the sensitivity of nasopharyngeal swabs (NPS) in COVID-19 patients, with a sensitivity rate of 77% for all NPS evaluated and 79% for the first follow-up swabs. Results showed no significant variations in sensitivity over time, and factors such as time since symptom onset, age, sex, number of comorbidities, and onset symptoms did not significantly impact the sensitivity of the first follow-up NPS. The utility of NPS in the diagnostic algorithm of COVID-19 should be reconsidered based on these findings.

Challenges of SERS technology as a non-nucleic acid or -antigen detection method for SARS-CoV-2 virus and its variants

Jaya Sitjar et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant negative impact on the global economy due to the fast transmission of the virus. Efforts are being made to minimize the impact by developing effective screening methods to identify infected individuals, especially in cases where standard nucleic acid and serological tests may not be reliable.

Repeated Antigen-Based Rapid Diagnostic Testing for Estimating the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Prevalence from the Perspective of the Workers' Vulnerability before and during the Lockdown

Ourania S. Kotsiou et al.

Summary: The study found that workers in the catering/food sector were more likely to be COVID-19 positive before the lockdown, with new cases halved under lockdown restrictions. There were no significant differences in the likelihood of being SARS-CoV-2 positive for different job categories during lockdown, and respiratory symptoms were an independent predictor for rapid antigen test positivity.

Accurate point-of-care serology tests for COVID-19

Charles F. Schuler et al.

Summary: The study conducted COVID-19 antibody testing in high-risk populations at the point of care, finding that finger-stick blood antibody testing was significantly effective in identifying antibodies from prior infections. Using serum did not improve the sensitivity or specificity of the testing, and almost all individuals with COVID-19 infection produced detectable antibodies to the virus.

Matthew D. Sims et al.

Summary: A study of 20,614 employees at Beaumont Health found that 8.8% tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, with 44% of them being asymptomatic. Healthcare roles such as phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, and nursing/nursing support exhibited higher seropositivity. Participants who wore N95 masks when in contact with COVID-19 patients had a lower seropositivity rate compared to those wearing surgical/other masks or no mask.
