Exploring the role of polyphenols in rheumatoid arthritis

Tapan Behl et al.

Summary: Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory autoimmune disorder that causes joint inflammation, bone erosions, and cartilaginous destruction. Current treatments have severe adverse effects, prompting the search for new therapeutic options. Research suggests that dietary polyphenols may have potential efficacy in treating rheumatoid arthritis.

Why remission is not enough: underlying disease mechanisms in RA that prevent cure

Georg Schett et al.

Summary: This review article addresses the challenges and driving factors in achieving cure for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), highlighting the differences between remission and cure in RA. Strategies targeting these drivers are presented to improve the likelihood of curing RA, complementing current cytokine inhibition therapies.

Lipopolysaccharide Binding Protein and CD14, Cofactors of Toll-like Receptors, Are Essential for Low-Grade Inflammation-Induced Exacerbation of Cartilage Damage in Mouse Models of Posttraumatic Osteoarthritis

Yoonkyung Won et al.

Summary: Low-grade inflammation associated with Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling components such as TLR-2, TLR-4, lipopolysaccharide binding protein (LBP), and CD14 exacerbates posttraumatic OA cartilage destruction. High-fat diet or endotoxemia-induced low-grade inflammation enhances cartilage destruction in mice, and this effect is significantly reduced in LBP-/- and CD14(-/-) mice. LBP and CD14 are necessary for the expression of matrix-degrading enzymes in mouse chondrocytes treated with proinflammatory cytokines.

Supercritical carbon dioxide extraction of plant phytochemicals for biological and environmental applications - A review

Thanigaivelan Arumugham et al.

Summary: Supercritical fluid CO2 extraction (SFE) technology has shown promising applications in extracting bioactive plant compounds and removing environmental pollutants through temperature and pressure regulation. The nonpolar properties of Sc-CO2 provide a strong solvent strength for efficient removal of contaminants, with potential applications in therapy and toxic metal recovery.

Upregulated endonuclease Regnase-1 suppresses osteoarthritis by forming a negative feedback loop of catabolic signaling in chondrocytes

Jeong-In Yang et al.

Summary: Regnase-1 is specifically upregulated in chondrocytes stimulated with OA-associated catabolic factors among the RNases. It suppresses cartilage destruction by modulating the expression of matrix-degrading enzymes in chondrocytes, potentially functioning as a chondro-protective effector molecule during OA pathogenesis.

Non-surgical management of knee osteoarthritis: comparison of ESCEO and OARSI 2019 guidelines

Nigel K. Arden et al.

Summary: Both the OARSI and ESCEO guidelines for knee osteoarthritis management offer similar recommendations on core treatments such as education, structured exercise, and weight loss. However, there are notable differences in certain medication recommendations, particularly with regards to pharmaceutical grade glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate.
