Posture and gait in the early course of schizophrenia

Valentina Presta et al.

Summary: While the correlation between postural stability deficits and schizophrenia is well established, research on dynamic motor alterations in schizophrenia is lacking. This study aimed to measure gait patterns in schizophrenia patients and identify posture and gait alterations that could predict the onset of the disorder. Results showed that patients with schizophrenia had increased sway area and reduced gait cadence, while gait speed and stride length remained normal, suggesting a unique postural and gait profile in early schizophrenia.
