Deoxytrichodermaerin, a harziane lactone from the marine algicolous fungus Trichoderma longibrachiatum A-WH-20-2

Ji-Xue Zou et al.

Summary: Three metabolites were isolated from Trichoderma longibrachiatum, an endophyte from marine red alga Laurencia okamurai. Among them, deoxytrichodermaerin represents the second harziane lactone with an ester linkage at a specific position, while harzianol A is a new natural product of Trichoderma. These isolates showed potent inhibition of some marine plankton species.

Metabolites of Trichoderma longibrachiatum EF5 inhibits soil borne pathogen, Macrophomina phaseolina by triggering amino sugar metabolism

A. P. Sridharan et al.

Summary: The endophytic fungal antagonist Trichoderma longibrachiatum EF5 showed biocontrol activity against the soilborne fungal pathogen Macrophomina phaseolina, with metabolites extracted from EF5 exhibiting significant inhibition. Dual culture of EF5 and M. phaseolina displayed entangled mycelial structures and hindered hyphal growth. Metabolites identified through GC-MS analysis revealed unique compounds in EF5 with potential plant growth promotion and antimicrobial properties, suggesting its potential as a biocontrol agent.

Trichoderma Biological Control to Protect Sensitive Maize Hybrids against Late Wilt Disease in the Field

Ofir Degani et al.

Summary: Late wilt, caused by the fungus Magnaporthiopsis maydis, is a severe disease affecting maize fields in Israel. Traditional control methods involve using maize cultivars with reduced sensitivity to the disease, but the effectiveness may decrease over time due to the presence of high virulent isolates of M. maydis. Recent research has shown promising results using Trichoderma spp. as biocontrol agents, with potential to improve crop yield and reduce pathogen DNA in maize plants. Further studies are needed to explore the full potential of biological control in protecting maize crops against Late wilt.
