Trichoderma spp. and a carob (Ceratonia siliqua) galactomannan to control the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita on tomato plants

Giada D'Errico et al.

Summary: Restrictions on chemical usage have led to an increased interest in biological control agents like Trichoderma species and biopolymers for managing plant-parasitic nematodes. Coating tomato roots with a biopolymer from the carob tree followed by soil application of selected Trichoderma strains reduced root galling and soil nematode populations. This study suggests that combining beneficial fungi with biopolymers could be a promising strategy for enhancing plant protection and their distribution in the rhizosphere.
