A Generalized Approach for Evaluating the Mechanical Properties of Polymer Nanocomposites Reinforced with Spherical Fillers

Summary: This study predicts the effective mechanical reinforcement of polymeric nanocomposites using a generalized three-phase-series-parallel model considering percolation and the interfacial glassy region. The research demonstrates that the nanometer range glassy interphase between filler and matrix should be considered in interpreting enhanced mechanical properties. Experimental results fitted with theoretical predictions show good agreement, suggesting potential for creating new materials with fundamental technological applications.
