Application of three self-developed ECT sensors for monitoring the moisture content in sand and mortar

Wentao Wang et al.

Summary: This study developed three types of capacitive sensors to monitor the moisture content in cement-based materials, and found that sensors with internal electrodes were more sensitive to changes in humidity, while external electrode sensors improved the homogeneity of the sensitive field. Additionally, experimental results showed that the capacitance signals of sand and cement mortar increased exponentially with increasing relative humidity.

Mechanical performances and microstructures of metakaolin contained UHPC matrix under steam curing conditions

Zongyun Mo et al.

Summary: This study found that steam curing significantly enhances the early compressive strength of UHPC matrix, but restrains late strength growth. Higher curing temperature facilitates a higher reaction degree of MK with cement, but decreases cement hydration degree. In terms of pore structure, the influence of steam curing on MK mixture is not significant.

Utilization of barium slag to improve chloride-binding ability of cement-based material

Pian Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that adding 10-30% of barium slag (BS) significantly increased the chloride-binding ability of the cement-BS system. This was mainly due to the optimized pore structures, facilitation of the formation of Friedel's salt in hardened pastes, and reduction of physically adsorbed chloride ions.

Dujian Zou et al.

Summary: The study experimentally validated a coupled chemo-transport model for external sulfate attack on concrete, showing that higher concentrations of sulfate solution and temperatures increase the concentration of sulfate ions in concrete. The research concluded that these parameters primarily affect external sulfate attack through the chemical reaction process.

Hydration and mechanical properties of cement-marble powder system incorporating triisopropanolamine

Jie Wang et al.

Summary: The incorporation of triisopropanolamine (TIPA) enhanced the mechanical strength and capillary water absorption of cement-marble powder (MP) mortar, with the improvement of these properties observed when the TIPA dosage exceeded 0.06%. The acceleration effect of TIPA on the cement-MP system hydration process was found to be the main reason for the enhancement of these properties.

Summary: Na2SO4 (NS)-activated slag as an alkali-activated binder showed slower strength development but lower CO2 emissions potential compared to NaOH and water glass. By using ultra-fine slag and fly ash (FA), the compressive strength was improved while reducing CO2 emissions. The study indicated a promising low carbon alkali-activated binder.
