Antifungal Activity of Chemical Constituents from Piper pesaresanum C. DC. and Derivatives against Phytopathogen Fungi of Cocoa

Summary: This study investigated the antifungal potential of chemical constituents from Piper pesaresanum and synthesized derivatives against three phytopathogenic fungi associated with cocoa crops. The results showed that benzoic acid derivatives exhibited strong antifungal activity against one of the fungi, while dihydrochalcones and acid derivatives were active against two other fungi. The structure-activity relationship indicated the importance of prenylated chains, carboxyl groups, and carbonyl groups in the antifungal activity of these compounds.
