Moxifloxacin Activates the SOS Response in Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a Dose- and Time-Dependent Manner

Angelo Iacobino et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that sub-MIC of fluoroquinolones can induce the SOS response in E. coli, increasing drug tolerance. In this study, it was found that moxifloxacin can induce the SOS response in Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a dose- and time-dependent manner. The activation of SOS response by moxifloxacin is influenced by various factors such as dose, time, physiological state, and MIC value.

Targeting amino acid metabolism of Mycobacterium tuberculosis for developing inhibitors to curtail its survival

Soujanya D. Yelamanchi et al.

Summary: Tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis remains a major infectious disease, with drug-resistant strains posing a significant challenge for treatment and eradication efforts. Recent research has shown that amino acid biosynthesis pathways are essential for the survival and pathogenesis of Mtb, presenting new opportunities for developing anti-tubercular drugs targeting these pathways. The absence of these pathways in humans makes them potential targets for inhibiting Mtb survival and pathogenesis.
