Piscirickettsia salmonis-Triggered Extracellular Traps Formation as an Innate Immune Response of Atlantic Salmon-Derived Polymorphonuclear Neutrophils

Pablo Alarcon et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the release of ETs-like structures from Atlantic salmon-derived PMN in vitro in response to a highly pathogenic facultative intracellular rickettsial bacteria Piscirickettsia salmonis. This novel finding may offer alternative strategies to enhance farmed salmon's defense against pathogens.

The Analysis of Live-Attenuated Piscirickettsia salmonis Vaccine Reveals the Short-Term Upregulation of Innate and Adaptive Immune Genes in Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar): An In Situ Open-Sea Cages Study

Deborah Vargas et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the immune response in Atlantic salmon vaccinated with a live-attenuated vaccine against P. salmonis, showing a short-term upregulation of the cellular-mediated immune response, particularly involving ifn alpha, ifn gamma, and cd4 and cd8 alpha T cell markers. The results suggest that a balanced activation of the immune response only occurred at early times post-vaccination.
