The effectiveness of the Fucus virsoides and Cystoseira barbata fucoidan isolation as a function of applied pre-treatment and extraction conditions

Summary: Fucus virsoides and Cystoseira barbata are important sources of sulfated polysaccharide fucoidan with wide biological activities. The study evaluated the influence of various pre-treatment solvents and conventional extraction parameters on polysaccharide yield and chemical composition. Results showed that the choice of pre-treatment solvent and using acid instead of water for extraction can improve yield and chemical composition.
