Use of a Heating System to Control the Probiotic Beverage Production in Batch Bioreactor

Jozef Ritonja et al.

Summary: Fermentation is a crucial bioengineering process and the batch bioreactor's simple construction results in its inability to control the transient state of the process. Equipping bioreactors with a control system is necessary to improve product quality and economy. Research shows that closed-loop control of the fermentation process in batch bioreactors can be achieved by changing the temperature.

Global Stability Analysis of a Bioreactor Model for Phenol and Cresol Mixture Degradation

Neli Dimitrova et al.

Summary: This study introduces a mathematical model for the degradation of a mixture of phenol and p-cresol in a continuously stirred bioreactor, incorporating a novel idea of biomass specific growth rate with interaction parameters. The equilibrium points, local asymptotic stability, bifurcations, existence and uniqueness of positive solutions, as well as global stabilizability of the model dynamics towards equilibrium points are analyzed. The dynamic behavior of the solutions is illustrated through numerical examples.

Implementation of Stir-Speed Adopted Controllers Onto a Batch Bioreactor for Improved Fermentation

Jozef Ritonja

Summary: The quality, quantity, and economy of fermentation products depend on both transient response and steady-state of the fermentation process. A mathematical model describing the impact of stirrer speed on fermentation was established and utilized for control systems. Linear and non-linear components were identified and used for control strategies in an industrial batch bioreactor.
