Au nanorods decorated TiO2 nanobelts with enhanced full solar spectrum photocatalytic antibacterial activity and the sterilization file cabinet application

Yingying Qin et al.

Summary: In this study, gold nanorods were used to enhance the light absorption of TiO2 NBs, resulting in improved photocatalytic antibacterial properties across the full solar spectrum. The combined Au NR/TiO2 NB heterostructure showed superior antibacterial efficiency due to enhanced carrier separation, direct electron transfer, and inhibition of charge recombination. The findings suggest a potential application of Au NR/TiO2 NB heterostructures in bacterial sterilization and archival protection.

Improved photocatalytic and antibacterial performance of Cr doped TiO2 nanoparticles

C. Gomez-Polo et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of Cr and N doping on the properties of TiO2 anatase nanoparticles, including adsorption capacity, photocatalytic performance, and antibacterial response. Doping with Cr and Cr/N enhances adsorption capacity and photocatalytic performance, with Cr-TiO2 nanoparticles exhibiting antibacterial activity under visible light. The differences in electrostatic charge and nanoparticle dispersion are suggested as the main reasons for the varied antibacterial response among the doped nanoparticles.

Summary: The study found that egg-based dishes were the most common food vehicle associated with SE outbreaks in the USA, followed by meat, vegetables, chicken, and dairy products. Despite eggs being the most common, other food items were also significantly associated with SE outbreaks in the USA. A significant proportion of SE outbreaks occurred in the Northeast region, followed by the South, West, and Midwestern regions.

Summary: The study found that vanadium-doped TiO2 thin films exhibit ferromagnetism, with decreased crystallinity, increased dislocation density, and residual stress as the vanadium doping percentage increases. Additionally, there is a significant enhancement in transmittance in the visible region, but dielectric properties decrease with higher vanadium doping percentages.

Synergistic mechanism and enhanced inactivation exhibited by UVA irradiation combined with citric acid against pathogenic bacteria on sliced cheese

Jong-Heon Seok et al.

Summary: This study investigated the synergistic bactericidal effect of simultaneous treatment with UVA irradiation and citric acid on sliced cheese contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, Salmonella Typhimurium, and Listeria monocytogenes. The combined treatment resulted in significant reductions in bacterial populations, primarily through damage to the cell membrane, production of ROS, and inactivation of enzymes. The treatment did not affect the texture and color parameters of the cheese, indicating the potential of this approach in improving microbial safety of dairy products.
