Antibacterial performance of fully biobased chitosan-grafted-polybenzoxazine films: Elaboration and properties of released material

Nisha Yadav et al.

Summary: A fully biobased benzoxazine monomer, V-fa, was successfully grafted onto chitosan, resulting in improved tensile strength, chemical resistance, and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Analysis of leached out species revealed that oxidative stress is responsible for the antibacterial activity. The study demonstrates the potential of biobased CS-graft-poly (V-fa) films for wound-healing and implant applications in the future.

Effect oftrans-cinnamic acid andp-coumaric acid on fibroblast motility: a pilot comparative study ofin silicolipophilicity measure

Rodrigo da Silva Viana et al.

Summary: Cinnamic acids and their derivatives, abundant in fruits and vegetables, have shown potential for diverse pathological conditions. In this study, trans-cinnamic acid was found to promote fibroblast migration more effectively than p-coumaric acid, possibly due to its higher lipophilicity, suggesting its suitability as a drug candidate.

Summary: Brown propolis contains various phenolic compounds, flavanonol, lignans, and diterpenic acids/alcohol. Its chemical profile suggests that it may originate from Pinus spp., Eucalyptus spp., and Araucaria angustifolia. The propolis has significant antimicrobial activity against Plasmodium falciparum and drug-resistant bacteria, as well as cytotoxic effects on tumor cells but not on normal cells.
