Changes in air pollution levels after COVID-19 outbreak in Korea

Min Jae Ju et al.

Summary: Social distancing measures led to a reduction in air pollution levels, particularly in particles and gases related to industrial activities and traffic. Efforts made in a short period of time may serve as a reference for reducing air pollution in a more sustainable post-COVID-19 world.

Land-based noise pollution impairs reef fish behavior: A case study with a Brazilian carnival

Antoine O. H. C. Leduc et al.

Summary: Human activities have spread anthropogenic sounds across the biosphere, affecting individual welfare and ecosystem health. Research shows that noise pollution from land, such as during the Brazilian carnival in Salvador, can significantly impact the behavior of reef fish species, potentially leading to detrimental effects on individual fitness and coastal ecosystem health. Conservation efforts should extend to coastal ecosystems to mitigate the impacts of underwater sounds emanating from land.

Can ICZM Contribute to the Mitigation of Erosion and of Human Activities Threatening the Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Coastal Landscape of Calabria?

Nicola Cantasano et al.

Summary: Calabria, a region in southern Italy, is home to numerous natural and cultural heritage sites located near the coast. A study found that over half of these sites are at risk from coastal erosion and human impact. It suggests that Integrated Coastal Zone Management is necessary to integrate and enhance the natural and cultural heritage of coastal regions for the benefit of local communities.

Marine microplastics as vectors of major ocean pollutants and its hazards to the marine ecosystem and humans

Tan Suet May Amelia et al.

Summary: Microplastic pollution has environmental and ecological impacts on plants, animals, and humans globally. It acts as a vector for pollutants, particularly in marine ecosystems, leading to bioaccumulation. Further research is needed to understand the potential effects on human health and factors influencing pollutant sorption and bioaccumulation by microplastic.

Preliminary Microbiological Coastal Water Quality Determination along the Department of Atlantico (Colombia): Relationships with Beach Characteristics

Zamira E. Soto-Varela et al.

Summary: Beach water quality in 14 beaches along the Department of Atlantico in Colombia was studied, showing a clear relationship between the presence of E. coli and Salmonella spp. with beach characteristics, particularly in urban areas and places with beach facilities. The research also revealed an association between the presence of Salmonella spp. and streams lacking wastewater treatment systems. Monitoring programs should focus on urban areas and locations with beach facilities to enhance microbiological water quality and ensure beachgoers' safety.

Summary: The majority of individuals continued to participate in resistance training during lockdown, with slight adjustments in location and types of training performed. People exerted less effort, had lower motivation, and perceived training as less effective and enjoyable during lockdown. Likelihood of continuing current training was similar or lower than pre-lockdown.

Beachgoer perceptions on health regulations of COVID-19 in two popular beaches on the Brazilian Amazon

Luci Cajueiro Carneiro Pereira et al.

Summary: This study aims to explore public perception of health safety regulations during the COVID-19 pandemic at two popular beaches on the Brazilian Amazon coast. Despite interviewees believing the pandemic to be dangerous, the state of Pará saw a situation at least as bad as in previous months in July, due to the relaxation of restrictions by local authorities in July 2020, including the reopening of public beaches.

The 2019 global pandemic and plastic pollution prevention measures: Playing catch- up

Joao Pinto da Costa

Summary: The early 2000's saw a growing awareness of the environmental disaster caused by plastics, leading to various initiatives and policies to tackle plastic pollution. However, the 2020 COVID19 pandemic has disrupted these efforts, with concerns over increased plastic pollution and consumption of single-use plastics. This disruption has also caused delays in plastic pollution reduction policies and initiatives.

Behavioral Restriction Determines Left Attentional Bias: Preliminary Evidences From COVID-19 Lockdown

Anna Lardone et al.

Summary: The study found that during lockdown, the restriction of behaviors resulted in increased non-verbal fluency, as indicated by a significant increase in the number of new drawings. Interestingly, there was a significant tendency to use the left part of each box in the m-FPT, which correlated with TAS-20 and the subscales assessing difficulty in describing and identifying feelings.
