The influence of phytoestrogens on different physiological and pathological processes: An overview

Jessica C. P. Petrine et al.

Summary: Phytoestrogens are non-steroidal compounds derived from plants that have demonstrated beneficial effects on health, but further research is needed to understand their exact mechanisms of action. The complexity of biological effects post ingestion of phytoestrogens, along with differences in metabolism and bioavailability, suggest that caution is required when interpreting the risks and benefits.

Genistein during Development Alters Differentially the Expression of POMC in Male and Female Rats

Jose Manuel Fernandez-Garcia et al.

Summary: The study found that administration of genistein during early life may delay the emergence of sex differences in body weight and lead to a significant decrease in POMC-ir cells in female rats. However, genistein did not affect orexin expression in either males or females.

Hypothalamic Expression of Neuropeptide Y (NPY) and Pro-OpioMelanoCortin (POMC) in Adult Male Mice Is Affected by Chronic Exposure to Endocrine Disruptors

Marilena Marraudino et al.

Summary: Long-term exposure to various EDCs can alter the hypothalamic circuits that regulate food intake and energy metabolism in adult male mice, as evidenced by decreased NPY and POMC immunoreactivity in the arcuate and dorsomedial nuclei. While the NPY system was affected in the paraventricular nucleus, the POMC system was not affected, and only the NPY system was affected in the ventromedial hypothalamus.
