Determining the origin of volcanic rocks in the melange complex of Karangsambung based on the electrical resistivity imaging

Lina Handayani et al.

Summary: A localized basalt-diabase outcrop in the Luk Ulo Melange Complex along the SE margin has been suggested as intrusive rocks cutting through Paleogene formations. However, the absolute dating of the volcanics is older than the sedimentary formations, making the in-situ intrusion theory less likely. Subsurface imaging using electrical resistivity method showed that the volcanic rocks are likely part of broken intrusive rocks rather than deep-rooted intrusions, indicating they may have been transported from their original location during olistostrome deposition.

Effect of hydrogen peroxide concentration on the maintenance and differentiation of cultured skeletal muscle cells

Hideaki Fujita et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on the differentiation and maintenance of C2C12 myoblasts, with assessments based on cell viability, total protein concentration, muscle-related proteins, sarcomere structure, and active tension generation. Results showed that sarcomere structure was most sensitive to H2O2 exposure, while cell viability was less sensitive. Furthermore, the decrease in muscle proteins correlated with the effects of H2O2 on active tension. Multiple measurements, including active tension generation, are essential for understanding the physiological impact of chemicals on muscle function.

Electrically Conductive Micropatterned Polyaniline-Poly(ethylene glycol) Composite Hydrogel

Soyoung Noh et al.

Summary: By incorporating electrically conductive polyaniline into a polyethylene glycol hydrogel matrix using UV-induced photolithography, electrically conductive hydrogel micropatterns were successfully generated in a few seconds. Culturing C2C12 myoblasts on this substrate resulted in selective cell adhesion to the conductive hydrogel regions, promoting myogenic differentiation and aligning myotubes in accordance with the pattern arrangement. The expression of myosin heavy chain on the patterned substrate indicates its potential as a substrate for myogenic cell functionalization.

Plectin regulates Wnt signaling mediated-skeletal muscle development by interacting with Dishevelled-2 and antagonizing autophagy

Huadong Yin et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that plec plays a crucial role in skeletal muscle development by promoting myoblast differentiation and proliferation, inhibiting apoptosis, regulating atrophy-related genes, and forming a protein complex with Dishevelled-2 to activate Wnt signaling. Additionally, plec resists ubiquitination, reduces autophagy, and stabilizes Dvl-2 to modulate canonical Wnt signaling and skeletal development.
