Tick-borne Pathogens Detected in the Blood of Immunosuppressed Norwegian Patients Living in a Tick-endemic Area

Hanne Quarsten et al.

Summary: The occurrence of tick-borne pathogens in the blood of patients with autoimmune conditions requiring immunosuppressive treatment was evaluated, with a detection rate of 8.6%. The main pathogen detected was Ca. Neoehrlichia mikurensis, with potential thromboembolic complications if left untreated.

Babesia spp. and Anaplasma phagocytophilum in free-ranging wild ungulates in central Austria

Stefan Kogler et al.

Summary: Free-ranging wild ungulates in central Austria were found to host Babesia and Anaplasma phagocytophilum, transmitted by ticks, with potential prevalence impacted by climate change. Further long-term testing is recommended to assess the impact of climate change on blood parasite prevalence in central Austria.
