High-Volumetric Supercapacitor Performance of Ordered Mesoporous Carbon Electrodes Enabled by the Faradaic-Active Nitrogen Doping and Decrease of Microporosity

Mingjiang Xie et al.

Summary: Introducing electroactive nitrogen functionalities and reducing microporosity can increase the bulk density of supercapacitors based on ordered mesoporous carbon, leading to enhanced volumetric performance. The developed nitrogen-doped ordered mesoporous carbon (NOMC) with graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) as the nitrogen source shows promising results, including high capacitance, excellent rate capability, and superior energy density, making it a potential candidate for portable energy storage devices. The carbon material with ordered mesoporosity and nitrogen functionalities also holds potential for applications in sorption and catalysis.

Facile construction of highly redox active carbons with regular micropores and rod-like morphology towards high-energy supercapacitors

Mulati Mansuer et al.

Summary: A facile route to construct highly redox active carbons is designed based on potassium bicarbonate-involved calcination, resulting in carbon materials with large specific surface area, high-level heteroatom activity, and regular micropore diameters. The carbon electrode shows outstanding capacitive performance and energy output in a hybrid aqueous electrolyte, with boosted energy density in an ionic liquid cell. The satisfactory supercapacitive performance can be attributed to the high-level superiority retention in the preset precursor, inspiring structure optimization for other functionalized carbons.
