clinker & clustermap.js: automatic generation of gene cluster comparison figures

Cameron L. M. Gilchrist et al.

Summary: Genes involved in biological pathways are often found in gene clusters, and comparing these clusters can provide valuable insights into their function and evolutionary history. To simplify the tedious process of comparing and visualizing gene cluster similarity, a Python tool called clinker and a companion JavaScript library called clustermap.js have been developed to automatically generate accurate, interactive, publication-quality gene cluster comparison figures from sequence files.

Eukaryotic virus composition can predict the efficiency of carbon export in the global ocean

Hiroto Kaneko et al.

Summary: There is a significant association between viral community composition and carbon export efficiency on a global scale, with viruses predicted to infect ecologically important hosts playing a crucial role in this process. These findings suggest that viruses likely act in the carbon pump process at a large scale in a manner dependent on their hosts and ecosystem dynamics.

The genomic content and context of auxiliary metabolic genes in roseophages

Xingyu Huang et al.

Summary: Marine bacteriophages, specifically the roseophages, possess a variety of auxiliary metabolic genes acquired through horizontal gene transfer, which play a significant role in their evolution and infection behavior. These genes show different types and frequencies, with high-frequency AMGs being conserved and low-frequency AMGs showing high functional diversity.
