Bioaccessibility and cellular uptake by Caco-2 cells of carotenoids and chlorophylls from orange peels: A comparison between conventional and ionic liquid mediated extractions

Summary: Bioaccessibility of carotenoids and chlorophylls was higher in extracts obtained from ionic liquid compared to acetone. Xanthophylls and carotenes had significantly higher bioaccessibilities than esters. Uptake by Caco-2 cells showed that xanthophylls and esters were better absorbed than carotenes.
