Deferoxamine Treatment Prevents Post-Stroke Vasoregression and Neurovascular Unit Remodeling Leading to Improved Functional Outcomes in Type 2 Male Diabetic Rats: Role of Endothelial Ferroptosis

Yasir Abdul et al.

Summary: This study found that iron chelation therapy with deferoxamine can prevent vasoregression and improve functional outcomes in diabetic rats after stroke, but it does not have a significant effect in non-diabetic rats. Furthermore, iron chelation may inhibit ferroptosis and provide a novel therapeutic strategy for preventing post-stroke cognitive impairment in diabetes.

Safety and Efficacy of Sovateltide (IRL-1620) in a Multicenter Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial in Patients with Acute Cerebral Ischemic Stroke

Anil Gulati et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of sovateltide as an addition to standard care in acute cerebral ischemic stroke patients. Results demonstrated that sovateltide, when combined with standard care, improved neurological outcomes and quality of life for patients.

Acute ischemic stroke & emergency mechanical thrombectomy: The effect of type of anesthesia on early outcome

Vinay Byrappa et al.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed the impact of general anesthesia (GA) and procedural sedation (PS) on the functional outcome of patients undergoing endovascular mechanical thrombectomy (EMT). The results showed that there was no significant difference in early functional outcome between GA and PS groups, although GA group had slightly higher modified Rankin scores at discharge. Additionally, the lowest recorded mean arterial pressure was significantly lower in the GA group compared to the PS group.

Effects of dietary polyphenol supplementation on iron status and erythropoiesis: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Teng Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that polyphenol supplementation has an inhibitory effect on serum iron concentration and transferrin saturation, but no significant effect on ferritin and hemoglobin concentration. Healthy individuals and patients with metabolic diseases may benefit from the positive impact of polyphenols on erythropoiesis, while patients with beta-thalassemia may benefit from the effect of polyphenols on reducing serum iron.

Ferroptosis and traumatic brain injury

Zhiwen Geng et al.

Summary: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a global health issue with significant economic burden, where ferroptosis may play a crucial role in its pathophysiology. Inhibition of ferroptosis could potentially improve long-term outcomes of TBI, emphasizing the importance of understanding the association between ferroptosis and TBI for new treatment targets.
