Analysis of vaccine-like lumpy skin disease virus from flies near the western border of China

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: Lumpy skin disease (LSD), a viral disease in cattle, was first detected in Xin-Jiang, China in August 2019. Non-biting flies were identified as potential vectors for the transmission of LSD virus (LSDV), with two species testing positive for LSDV in insect surveillance. Phylogenetic analysis revealed high homology with a recombinant vaccine-like strain formerly identified in Russia.

Development of a Safe and Highly Efficient Inactivated Vaccine Candidate against Lumpy Skin Disease Virus

Janika Wolff et al.

Summary: Capripox virus-induced diseases are considered serious threats to livestock animals and only live-attenuated vaccines are currently available for control. The development of effective inactivated vaccines against CaPV is challenging, but promising, as shown by recent studies on adjuvanted formulations inducing sterile immunity.

Comparative Evaluation of Lumpy Skin Disease Virus-Based Live Attenuated Vaccines

Andy Haegeman et al.

Summary: This study compared five homologous live attenuated LSDV vaccines and found that all of them were able to protect against a challenge with virulent LSDV. There were important differences in side effects such as a local reaction and a Neethling response upon vaccination between the analyzed vaccines, which could have implications in the field applicability of some of these LSDV LAVs.

Summary: Two DIVA qPCR assays have been developed to distinguish between Neethling-based LAVs and wild-type LSDV, showing high sensitivity and specificity with a comparable diagnostic performance to other published DIVA assays.
